Armed men ‘storm into home and steal bulldogs in front of residents in robbery’

Armed robbers left home owners shaken after they stormed into a house and stole a number of dogs, police have said.

A group of men, one armed with a knife and another a gun, burst into the Liverpool home shortly after 2.25pm today.

According to police reports they threatened the home owners, demanded money and then grabbed several American Bulldogs, Liverpool Echo reports.

They then stole a VW Golf which was parked outside, police said.

A spokesperson for Merseyside Police said: “We have arrested three males after a report a car and dogs were stolen in a burglary at a house in Old Swan on Sunday afternoon (18 October).

“Officers were called to Derwent Road West just after 2.25pm where it was reported a group of males had forced entry through a back door, with one carrying what appeared to be a firearm and another a knife.

“The males demanded cash and jewellery while making threats, before leaving with a number of American Bulldogs and a silver VW Golf car that was parked outside

“They left in the VW Gold and a white Ford Focus in the direction of Green Lane.

“None of the occupants sustained injuries, but have been left extremely shaken by the ordeal.”

The VW Golf was later located abandoned on Cotswold Street.

The Ford Focus, which was found to have been stolen in a previous incident, was reported to have been in a collision with a van on Sheil Road at around 3.45pm.

A large police presence was seen outside the Sheil Park pub this afternoon.

Early reports that the police car “had bullets in its side” and shots were fired turned out not to be true.

At this stage there are no reports of injuries.

A police car was towed away from the scene this afternoon.

An armed response vehicle was also taken away from the scene on the back of a truck.
